Newly crowned African Boxing Union (ABU) Bantam Weight Champion, David Mwale, has threatened to end the career of his new opponent from Kenya, Gabriel Ochieng.
Mwale, populary known as Zesco punches and Ochieng are slated to battle for the ABU Bantam Weight title in a fight slated for April 6.
Addressing journalists in Lusaka on Wednesday, Mwale vowed to defend the title like he did last year when he outsmarted South Africa’s Innocent Mantengu.
“As a champion you don’t underrated your opponent because each one of them is coming with their own strategy to try and grab that title from you and so am working hard to defend it,” he stated.
At the same briefing, Oriental Queries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) announced that Mwale would defend his ABU title on April 6, 2024 in an 11-bout international championship at the Government Complex in Lusaka.
OQBP Manager, Christopher Malunga, confirmed that the fight night set for April will feature two international title fights with Gracious Simwalizi set to compete for an ABU Super Bantamweight crown.

Malunga who unveiled an K910, 000 budget for the April fight appealed to the corporate world to partner with OQBP for the stable to host another intriguing championship which would feature boxers from Zimbabwe, Malawi and South Africa.
” I can confirm that we have raised at least 90 percent of the total budget which we ealier said was K890, 000 but has gone up to K910,000 due to several logistics and we are ready for the fight,” he said.
Speaking from his base in Kenya, Ochieng warned that he was coming to Zambia for serious business and had been training hard for the fight.
