Born Short Living Tall (BSLT) has called on the government to expedite the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by integrating them into existing frameworks.
BSLT president, Ntalasha Chisha, said one key area for this implementation was the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday, Chisha encouraged the government to use the SDGs as key guidelines for selecting and prioritising viable CDF development projects, particularly in rural communities.

“It is essential for the government to recognise that the SDGs are not just aspirational targets but tangible guidelines that can inform policy decisions, resource allocation and development strategies at all levels,” he added.
Chisha emphasized that by incorporating the SDGs into national planning and governance frameworks, the government would ensure a more coordinated and effective approach to addressing the complex challenges facing people today.
“Furthermore, we appeal to President Hakainde Hichilema to appoint a special commission to facilitate the integration of the SDGs into a comprehensive national action plan and promote the exchange of information and knowledge between stakeholders,” he mentioned.
Chisha further stated that the commission must consult with all government agencies and relevant stakeholders to develop an SDG document representing opportunities in each constituency.
“The document can then be made available to parliamentarians to show how the SDGs fit into their respective constituencies for a clear development agenda on the best project opportunities for CDF investment,” he added.
He stressed the importance of aligning every constituency to implement projects in line with the SDGs to realise the vision of the 2030 Agenda to build a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable society for all.
“It is important to note that this approach will build a system of participatory monitoring to ensure accountability and follow-up on the SDGs,” he said.
Chisha pointed out that this would help in forging partnerships with relevant stakeholders and involved minorities in the nation’s development agenda.
“We have an opportunity to create a better future for our children by 2030. We should avoid the snare of procrastination when dealing with important national matters,” he stated.
