The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Gilbert Phiri, has finally issued a committal certificate to have Lusaka businessman, Sedrick Kasanda, tried by the High Court for aggravated robbery involving US$5 million.
Kasanda who has been in detention since February, was on Wednesday, finally committed to the High Court.
At the last meeting, Lusaka Magistrate George Njobvu said Kasanda’s continued detention was against the law, unreasonable and an injustice to him.
The Magistrate proceeded to order for a Preliminary Inquiry (PI) in this case.
But when the matter came up for hearing of the PI, the Court was informed by the state that the committal certificate was ready.
It was alleged that on August 13, 2023, Kasanda acting together with unknown persons and armed with pistols robbed Egyptian Adel Botros of US$5 million at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) and also threatened to use violence.
The robbery was linked to the gold scam scandal.
